wHere dO bicycLes BeLong?Y

So angry wif wat I saw on e newspaper (Today, Tuesday, May 30)

Being a cyclist myself, I truly understand the situation local cyclist are facing. The LTA does not allow us to cycle on pavement (or else kanan fines); the police does not allows us to cycle on road; then where shd we cycle? Grass patch is it? Even so, I would not like the idea; it’s XXXX so bumpy. Dun understand wat are the authorities doing, discriminating us cyclists is it? The most angry thing is tt there r even ppl criticizing us. Hey man! Wats wrong wif u ppl? Instead of providing solution to solve the conflict, ppl just complain to wat-ever department, hoping they will give a satisfying answer. So free to make a complaint, but they dun hve the time to at least give a solution (I tot we shd give solution to whatever complaint we made, tt wat we students r doing for the functional writing and 应用文during exam isn’t it?).

I would definitely disagree wif Leong Lip Wee and Evelin Teo hu think tt we shd prevent cyclists from cycling on the pavement which will endanger the pedestrian. Den does it means tt they wan us to cycle on the road and get horned by the bery dangerous vehicles or the worst being hit by the cars? Tt wat im saying juz nw, throwing their complains to e govt, hoping sth would be done w/o making the efforts to help to solve the problem. Of course there are bound to be some reckless cyclists hu r cycling dangerously and/or impolitely, but juz look at wat Evelin Teo wrote:
This is a common sight we see everyday. Even when there are many pedestrians, cyclists do not even bother to dismount to push their bicycle but prefer to ring their bells, demanding right of way.
Yes I do agree tt most cyclists will not get off and push their bike juz to walk a small dist, ppl r selfish to only think for themselves, but tt wat all ppl r ‘practicing’ isn’t it, so y blame others when one himself is oso a selfish person (unless u admit tt u r not human, den i’ll say tt u r the exceptional case). I oso hate cyclists hu ring their bells on pedestrians. They shd be aware tt cycling on pavement is our privilege as it is illegal to do so; the pedestrians are kind enough to allow us to do so. Therefore we shd be the one giving way unless they thoughtfully move to a side for us to pass thru.

I have seen toddlers, children, the elderly and even adults being knocked down. Even then, the cyclists did not stop to check on the injured. They just cast a glance at the person and cycle away.
I oso admit dat there is a few time where I knocked into ppl (but I merely gently brushed the person elbow and she scolded mi for reckless cycling. Oi, how do I noe tt she would suddenly change her direction. Thankfully I didn’t crash rite into her or else i’ll definitely bcum a pc of dead meat…)
Yet wat Evelin had stated is in fact a sweeping statement. I dun believe tt she actually saw ‘ toddlers, children, the elderly and even adults’ kanan hit by bicycles. Does she live in a dangerous zone, where all cyclists are dangerous such tt it is a common sight she see everyday? Does she see mi slowing down when there r ppl in front of mi? does she mi cycling on the grass patch coz im giving way to the pedestrians? does she see mi nearly getting injured to avoid hurting the pedestrians?

Thankfully there r ppl like Alexander Voon Yuin Khiong, Hendri Teo, and Chris Chew hu sympathize wif our plight. I do agree tt cycling on pavement is better than on the road. Do u ever see any reports stating pedestrians getting killed in ‘bicycle accident on the pavement’? all I noe is dat many cyclists are killed on the roads everyday. i salute Chris Chew to at least say tt he would rather get hit by a cyclist than force them onto roads to get rolled over by a bus. yap I noe he may not be doing wat he said, but at least he say tt, compare to those hu (pardon mi to use tis word) discriminate cyclists. Road users shd definitely learn to be more tolerant; other than the road, we cyclist realli do not hve any space to ride. It is a healthy exercise isn’t it?

I wont demand the govt or any relevant authorities to do anything as I noe it would cost a lot funds and time to have cyclists’ tracks beside all pavement. I juz hope anyone hu see tis would bcum more aware of e situation we cyclists r facing and, in the future, can be more considerate in sharing the pavement wif us cyclists.
