My friends and I always play card games in Mcdonalds every weekend at night as a form of entertainment and gathering. We have been doing that for years. Just tonight, we met a very rude 'Second Assistant Manager' ordering us to leave the Mcdonalds at Bugis Village because she said card gaming is not allowed.
This is preposterous. We have been doing that at a lot of Mcdonalds every weekend and no one said a thing. Why are popular FAMILY games like UNO not allowed in Mcdonalds since it is a FAMILY restaurant? There is no gambling involved at all. No poker cards nothing. Most importantly, we have been ordering food. We stayed for more than 5 hours and the manager just came to chase us away only at the 6th hour. This is complete rubbish. Why couldn't she do that earlier? She even asked security guard and police to chase us out. The police can only tell us to complain to the management instead since she has the power to chase us out. Are all 'Second Assistant Managers' empowered to chase customers out every now and then? Has she thought of the fact that she has alarmed the customers this way by calling the police?
She quotes the following two reasons why we can't play card games:
One, we are too noisy. ( Hello, as if Mcdonald is a fine dining restaurant that practises noise discipline. This is a family restaurant for goodness sake. Noise is inevitable since there are youngsters.)
Two: Mcdonalds is a halal restaurant. Muslims frequent the place. They are not allowed to gamble according to their religion. Seeing us playing cards is tantamount to gambling. ( Hello, there is no money on the table. Even if there is money, it is to buy Mcdonalds' food. We are not a bunch of people hanging out in Geylang with cigarettes in our mouth and playing poker cards. Where is the gambling element?)
I have even seen other groups of people playing card games in East Coast Mcdonalds. Can someone tell me if this is not allowed? If so, can I implore Mcdonalds to put up a notice saying this is not allowed? I'm quite sure youngsters who love card games won't patronise the 24-hr restaurant at night if that is the case. This is the first time I have encountered such rude service in Singapore. The manager had to waste the police's time for such small issue.
Bugis is such a popular spot for tourists. I wonder how the foreign delegates from Youth Olympics will think if they were to see such service from just a Mcdonalds staff.
This guy is really stupid. Still have the shame to blame others for his wrong doing. Good thing that many ppl online also think that this guy is at wrong. So happy XD
